New Expanded I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form

 In Blog, Educational Issues

Just when you thought you had filling the form out down, the government changes it!  On March 8, 2013, USCIS (The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) published a new expanded I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form.

Form I-9 is the standard form issued by the USCIS that every business must use to verify the identity and employment eligibility of all individuals hired in the United States — both citizens and non-citizens must complete this form.  Further, the employer must ensure that the form is completed correctly for each individual they hire.

The new Form I-9 is very different from previous versions and asks for new data. It will have a 60-day implementation period during which time both the new and old form versions may be used. After May 7, 2013, only the new Form I-9 may be used.  I-9 compliance is critical. Additionally, employers will be required to use the new form for all new hires and for any rehires or re-verifications when they would normally use section 3.

For your convenience, we have included a link to the new form and instructions below as well as on “Our Resources” menu tab at the top of this web page.
